Operations are the varied dossiers that pair a Location with a tailored setup, special rules, and a clear narrative for why the site has earned Netherwatch's attention. Each one reshapes the map and the rhythm of play, such as which Zones hold potential cover from the Demon when it appears, or a unique Escape Objective as an alternative to banishing the Demon.
A typical Operation presents the layout of the map for initial setup (which side to play on), as well as special rules to adhere to during play. At Ashwood Manor, for example, Agents have documented entire stairwells blinking out of existence and then returning, a phenomenon unique to this place.
Operations are rated in three different ways, in relation to the complexity of the additional rules and availability of resources.
- Recon (Green) Operations introduce minor procedural twists with minimal changes to base rules.
- Containment (Yellow) Operations increase complexity through added rules and tighter supplies.
- Extermination (Red) Operations layer on volatile conditions that bend the rules of engagement, with high risk and unique challenges.
Aside from the variable complexity provided by Operations, Agent Tier offers a separate way to fine tune the challenge. The rank selected - Initiate, Operative, or Veteran - acts as a difficulty dial to adjust the core rules to a desired level of intensity. The chosen rank adjusts how much time the Agents have before it is even possible for the Demon to manifest, and changes how the Demon responds to key conditions, such as how it can kill Agents and how it returns to a Dormant state.
Because Agent Tier is chosen independently from the Operation itself, a Recon mission can become far more punishing at Veteran rank, while an Extermination can be made more approachable at Initiate rank. This separation allows every assignment to scale, ensuring replayability across all levels of experience.
Ashwood Manor
North Carolina—Residential Site 0384—α Alpha-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 1.4
New Demonic activity has been reported in Ashwood Manor by the Department of Surveillance and Intelligence. They have collected sufficient distress calls about this house to bring attention to the Field Operations Department. It is unclear what Demon might be residing in this location. Your mission is to enter Ashwood Manor and Banish the Demon. If unable, Escape with as much information so the next team may continue the Operation.
Nevermore Avenue
Spain—Residential Site 0712—γ Gamma-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 3.4
The residence at Nevermore Avenue has been confirmed as the long-term dwelling of Operative Rodrigo Reyes. Years of service have resulted in the accumulation of numerous anomalous items throughout the property. Current intelligence is inconclusive as to whether one such artifact served as a summoning conduit, or if an unresolved mission has resurfaced in the form of a demonic manifestation. Agents are advised to proceed with extreme caution—this location is considered volatile.
Old Man Dyer's
Nebraska—Residential Site 0161—δ Delta-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 3.6
Old Man Dyer’s residence has long fueled local rumor and adolescent dares. Neighbors described the reclusive hermit as a dangerous eccentric, with tales of unspeakable acts carried out in the basement of his decaying home. While much of this is dismissed as folklore, Netherwatch intelligence confirms unusual energies within the property. Whether the “kill room” is truth or myth, the site now shows elevated Veil instability. Agents should approach with caution—this location is considered high threat.
Delta Mu Nu Frat House
Wisconsin—Residential Site 8576—δ Delta-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 3.9
Recent supernatural disturbances have elevated “typical frat mess” into a classified threat. Reports indicate that during a raucous party, a member attempted a “summoning trick” after one too many keg stands. Unfortunately, the ritual worked—opening a tear in the Veil and inviting something that doesn’t belong on this plane (or at this party). Cleanup will be complicated by broken glass, black mold, and possibly sentient pizza boxes. Agents are advised to expect belligerent spirits, literal and figurative.
Harrowick Mansion
England—Estate Site 0419—λ Lambda-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 5.1
Harrowick Mansion, a sprawling estate in Surrey, was once the residence of Arthur P. Harrowick, an antiquarian and rumored occultist of the 1950s. His obsession with forbidden texts and ritual artifacts coincided with the unexplained disappearance of several close associates. Recent disturbances suggest his collection’s latent energies have reawakened, producing violent manifestations within the estate. Classified as Lambda-Class, the site is considered extremely volatile—Agents should expect unpredictable threats of significant scale.
Crane Estate
Massachusetts—Estate Site 0763—Ω Omega-Class Threat—Veil Stability Index 5.2
Overlooking the Atlantic coast, the Crane Estate has stood empty since the disappearance of the family and their staff nearly a century and a half ago. Records and recovered artifacts point to maritime rites conducted on the grounds, their symbols still undeciphered by Netherwatch ritualists.
Renewal of the property has proven impossible. Sudden squalls strike the cliffs without warning, storms drive inland with unnatural frequency, and reports describe crushing pressure in sealed rooms, timbers straining as if beneath the sea, and sea water rising through the floorboards. The combination of lingering ritual energies and ceaseless environmental assault makes the Crane Estate one of the most volatile sites on record. Agents are cleared for entry only in highly coordinated teams.
